- How to Buy PolyDoge: Beginner’s Guide
Just now·5 min read
So, you’re new to Polygon and just found out about PolyDoge. It’s fun, gives you benefits for HODLing, and boasts one of the largest communities on Polygon.
You want to buy some, but don’t know how. This guide is for you then.
Put on your space suit, captain.
By reading this quick guide, you’ll also learn the basics of Polygon (which is becoming the hottest layer-2 network on Ethereum). And you’ll be able to buy PolyDoge, one of the most popular community tokens on Polygon. Buy it for the memes, stay for the community.
Let’s walk through four methods of getting your money onto the Polygon network. Which method is best for you depends on where your funds are originally.
- Matic and Polygon are the exact same thing. Polygon used to be called Matic and they rebranded.
Addresses on Polygon look exactly like your Ethereum address. They all start with 0x…. and so on.
Polygon is a network just like Ethereum so funds need to be bridged over. For example, you would use a bridge to move funds from Ethereum to Polygon.
When you create a Polygon wallet, you will AUTOMATICALLY be sent 0.001 MATIC which is enough for a few transactions. Pretty cool.
Once you move your funds to Polygon, you can enjoy near-instaneous transactions which cost $0.00001 each.
Quickswap is the most popular decentralized exchange on Polygon and you’ll be buying PolyDoge there.
Metamask is a must for any of these steps. It’s a wallet that lets you plug into any crypto-related apps while also giving you full control of your funds.
I’m not going to get into how to set up your MetaMask wallet. If you don’t know how to setone up, then this may be too complicated for you already. Read this guide on how to set up your MetaMask, if so.
Once you have MetaMask already installed on your Chrome browser, you have to add the Matic Network to it.
- Click the Ethereum Mainnet drop-down menu at the top of your Metamask.
2. Scroll down to Custom RPC.
3. Input this information:
Network Name: Matic Network
New RPC URL: https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com/
Chain ID: 137
Currency Symbol: MATIC
Block Explorer: https://explorer.matic.network
Now, whenever you are using QuickSwap, make sure you select Matic Network from the dropdown menu. This ensures you are connected to Matic via your MetaMask wallet. And you’re good to go!
This is the method most use, but it is not the cheapest. You will have to pay ETH gas fees to move your funds to Polygon.
Make sure that your ETH address on your MetaMask has some Ethereum (ETH) in it: however much you want to transfer + $20–30 in ETH for gas.
- Go to https://wallet.matic.network/ and connect your Metamask (while on the Ethereum network). Now click the Move Funds to Matic Network button.
Input how much and what you want to move to Polygon. Could be ETH or any other erc20 token like MATIC or USDC. Accept the transaction in your Metamask and pay for the gas.
Wait 7–8 minutes for the funds to be moved from the Ethereum network to Polygon (Matic).
4. Success! Your funds are now on Polygon.
5. Go to quickswap.exchange and connect to the Matic Network on your MetaMask. Now you can buy some PolyDoge on Quickswap.
6. Click “select token” on the main page and copy & paste the PolyDoge contract address: 0x8A953CfE442c5E8855cc6c61b1293FA648BAE472. See pic below.
Paste the contract address (0x8A953CfE442c5E8855cc6c61b1293FA648BAE472) here and PolyDoge will come up.
Now swap for PolyDoge and you’re all set.
