Social media marketing is a way for brands to promote their products or services relatively at a cheaper price. It provides companies to reach new markets/customers, engage with existing consumers, and promote their mission. Brands use social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, etc. to promote their name and products. This requires them to fill in important details about the product and pay a fee depending on how wide they want their message to reach their target audience.
M&m’s produces different colored, button-shaped chocolates and is famous worldwide. M&m’s has grown significantly with the help of social media. Their marketing campaign is to get their consumers involved with the development of their product and social media has made that possible. M&m’s and their customers have a direct link due to social media where they can easily relay their suggestions on how they want their M&m’s hence, they become invested. (Leong Benjamin, 2020).
Even though Super Bowl is one of the most popular events of the year, brands do not have direct communication with their consumers. Advertising on Super Bowl is just a one-way communication, super expensive and brands will not be able to get feedback from them. The audience will also be of diverse culture and not targeted. Social media, on the other hand, M&m’s will be able to target directly and make as their new customers. (Brand Bastian, 2017)
Once the ad has been aired, social media platforms like Facebook keep a detailed report about that ad. It can tell M&m’s how many people are watching their ad, till when it will expire, how to increase target audience, etc. Different social media platforms have different perks. Facebook can tell about other competitors targeting the same audience as M&m’s and other platforms may be cheaper. Social media can help keep track of various ads which is of great assistance to M&m’s. (Newberry Christina, 2019)
It’s not really a challenge for M&m’s to market themselves on social media platforms as they are already worldwide famous for their buttoned chocolates. They have a huge department solely for the marketing of M&m’s. Even with many changes in the market for over half a century, M&m’s has still remained present and relevant.
